Summer is one of the best times to lock in a trip if you know how to fish the window. I’m booking now for June, July, and August, when early starts, cooler spring-fed water, and smart travel plans make all the difference for trout. That’s where the ¾ day trip really shines—it gives us time to range farther into the Driftless, reach colder water, and fish the best part of the day instead of grinding through the hottest afternoon hours. For anglers around Madison, that means access to productive trout streams and spring creeks within an easy drive, plus the option to pivot toward warmwater opportunities when conditions call for it. Summer is also prime time for smallmouth bass, the Driftless region’s most aggressive warmwater fish. We offer both float and walk/wade smallmouth trips, and if you’re looking to branch out from trout, few fish hit harder or fight better in the summer heat.
